Summary

Kitui County has significant untapped copper ore deposits in wards such as Kwa Vonza, Mithikwani, Tharaka, Kyuso, and Ikutha/Kasaala. To harness this potential, a state-of-the-art Copper Ore Processing Plant is proposed, designed to produce high-grade copper concentrate for both domestic and export markets. Copper is a critical input in industries including construction, electronics, renewable energy, and transportation, with global demand projected to grow at 4–5% annually driven by urbanization, infrastructure development, and the transition to clean energy and electric mobility. The plant will adopt advanced processing technologies (crushing, grinding, flotation, refining) to maximize ore recovery while minimizing waste and energy consumption. Integrated sustainability measures such as water recycling and responsible waste management will ensure environmental compliance. The total investment required is USD 50 million, with the project designed for scalability. It will process an estimated 100,000 tons of ore annually, generating USD 700 million in revenue at current copper concentrate prices (USD 7,000/ton). The project is expected to break even in 3–4 years.
