Summary

The County Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in collaboration with the County Ministry of Trade has developed a project proposal for Agroprocessing and Value Addition of Green Grams (Ndengu) in Kitui County. The project aims to increase production, aggregation, and marketing of green grams through an out-grower and contract farming model, complemented by investor-managed leased farms. The investor will provide farm inputs on credit, support agricultural extension services, establish ward-level aggregation centers, and utilize the Kitui County Aggregation and Industrial Park for centralized processing and value addition. The proposed total investment requirement is USD 40 million, and the expected profit margin is approximately USD 0.62 per unit. The project will generate direct and indirect employment across farming, aggregation, processing, and marketing, while promoting climate-resilient agriculture in semi-arid regions.
