Summary

The proposed Mutomo Reptile Park will be established within the Mutomo Hill Plant Sanctuary, approximately 75 km from Kitui Town and adjacent to Mutomo Sub-County headquarters. The project, covering 20 acres, seeks to create a unique ecotourism destination that combines education, conservation, entertainment, and venom tapping. At a total cost of USD 1 million, the reptile park will feature naturalistic habitats for snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles, and other reptiles, alongside interactive educational programs, behind-the-scenes tours, and special events. The facility will also serve as a control center for venom tapping, supporting both medical research and anti-venom production. Future development plans include expansion of exhibits, breeding programs for endangered species, and complementary attractions such as a botanical garden, wildlife rescue center, and eco-lodge accommodation. The project is designed to position Mutomo as a leading ecotourism and conservation hub in the region, contributing to local employment, environmental conservation, and sustainable tourism.
