A feedlot is a confined yard area with watering and feeding facilities where cattle are held and completely hand or mechanically fed for the purpose of beef production. Feedlots can lead to substantial increases in the yields on sales of beef cattle; for example, a feedlot can buy a 200kg cow for Ksh 20, 000 to Ksh 24,000. After 3 months in the feedlot the animal will reach 350kgs, where it can be sold at Ksh 275 per kilo to KMC. The animal will be sold at Ksh 96,250. Feedlot Programme involves a concept of segregating feed production into 3 segments, notably breeding, fattening and pricing: The livestock breeding and improvement programme will integrate commercial producers and household-basedproducers.
