The proposed project will comprise a convention centre capable of hosting up to 1,000 delegates, combined with a luxury hotel and vacation resort nestled in the Taita hills. The resort will be one of the largest investments in the tourism industry in Kenya in recent times, as it includes the development of a 200 key hotel alongside a resort with full amenities. The project seeks to transform Voi town into a premier conference destination as there is a rich and distinct tourism attraction and the expected easy and fast access to Voi via the modern Standard Gauge Railway and the Ikanga Airstrip. Key attractions include the opportunity to organise game tours from an easily accessible location, the fact that the facility will depend less on seasonal external tourist income and more on business income. A major opportunity is the lack of facilities to host significant conferences exceeding 1,000 persons outside of Nairobi. The County Government of TaitaTaveta aims to change that and provide a viable, high quality alternative that improves Kenya’s capacity to host major international meetings.
